Ridgefield ECDC Seeks Artist For Downtown Sculpture

Updated: May 23, 2024

June 14, 2023 | FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Ridgefield Economic & Community Development Commission (“Ridgefield ECDC”) Request For Proposal (RFP) Cultural District Award Commemorative Sculpture

Project Summary

Ridgefield, CT, contains the first Cultural District in the state of Connecticut, established in 2021. The Ridgefield ECDC created an award to honor individuals who have had an economic impact on the town through their extraordinary contribution to its cultural landscape.

To honor the recipients of the award and draw attention to the Cultural District, Ridgefield ECDC proposes installing a sculpture in a highly visible and trafficked location in Ridgefield—likely in the downtown area that encompasses the Cultural District. An acorn has been used on the sign identifying the Cultural District and the sculpture should have some representation of an acorn. The sculpture should have space to incorporate the current and future names of winners. The sculpture should require little or no maintenance, aside from the addition of the names, and should be a safe structure that does not invite climbing or jumping.

Bid Submission

Bidders are asked to submit the best, safest, and most cost-effective work to meet the requirements.  The bid should include all elements of the project including design, creation, transport, and installation.  The sculpture must be safe and not attract vandals or use as a structure to sit on, hang off, or jump from.

Proposals Must Include

  1. Description and drawings of sculpture with list of materials and specifications;

  2. Proposed fees and expenses for each aspect of the project: material, labor, transportation, installation;  and

  3. Experience/qualifications of artist including a resume for the artist creating and installing the work with examples of completed projects similar in nature—examples of completed projects must be included as PDFs or link to a portfolio.
